A solo hiker exploring a rugged mountain trail slipped on loose gravel and suffered a broken ankle. Unable to walk, he activated his PLB. Despite the remote location, rescuers quickly homed in on his signal and reached him before night temperatures dropped dangerously low. Without it, he may not have made it through the night.
